AS AN AVID AM RADIO FAN, I HAVE FOR YEARS BEEN FORCED TO ENDURE A WELL FUNDED ADVERTISING RADIO AD CAMPAIGN BY THE MIDWEST CENTER FOR STRESS AND ANXIETY - http://www.stresscenter.com/mwc/ . MUCH LIKE THE MOTEL 6 CAMPAIGN USING TOM BODETT, THE ADS ARE REPEATED SO OFTEN AND FOR SO LONG, THEY BECOME IRRITATING.
I WAS SHOCKED TO LEARN LUCINDA BASSETT'S HUSBAND COMMITTED SUICIDE! HERE IS A WOMAN PURPORTEDLY OUT TO HELP PEOPLE ALL WHILE SEPARATING YOU FROM YOUR CASH, AND HER HUSBAND KILLS HIMSELF! I MEAN, WTF?
FROM AMAZON.COM BOOK REVIEWS;
This review is in response to some criticism I have read about Lucinda Bassett and the book FROM PANIC TO POWER. There have been some comments on this page alleging that Lucinda Bassett is only in it for the money and that this book, and the Attacking Anxiety program, do not really offer any help to those dealing with anxiety and depression. As someone who went through the Attacking Anxiety program back in 1994 at age 18 and who is currently reviewing the program, as someone who has read the FROM PANIC TO POWER book (and who received a free autographed copy of LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS from Lucinda Bassett in gratitude for some online mentoring I had offered to others dealing with anxiety and depression), I feel qualified to address the issues of the effectiveness of Lucinda's work. Bottom line: it works. Or, rather, it helps a great deal. But one caveat -- detailed below. Session 4 of the Attacking Anxiety program says that people who deal with anxiety often have unrealistic expectations. Our high expectations of ourselves, our friends, our lives, often cause an undo amount of anxiety and stress. We can lessen our anxiety by lessening our expectations. "Don't expect so much," Lucinda suggests. Lowering your expectations will make you more thankful for and aware of whatever little progress you make in your journey to recovery. The Attacking Anxiety program is advertised as offering you "complete recovery" from issues concerning anxiety and depression. In the version of the program that I have, it is not until session 15 (the last session) that Lucinda admits, "The truth of the matter is that it simply takes 15 weeks to go through the material in the program. There is no limit to the amount of time it takes you to get over anxiety." Eventually, she admits, "We don't know everything." The great irony is that you sort of need to use Lucinda's advise against her own advertising slogans. I could paraphrase Lucinda's advise as, "Don't expect the Attacking Anxiety program or the book FROM PANIC TO POWER to live up to its inflated advertisement claims." If you go through the program expecting complete recovery from anxiety (with no relapses or "growth spurts"), if you read FROM PANIC TO POWER expecting a complete recovery, you will come away disappointed. The truth as I feel it now is that if you use the Attacking Anxiety program and FROM PANIC TO POWER as tools in what may be a lifelong recovery strategy and lifestyle, you will definitely see positive results. The advise I'd give to a seeker of recovery is that if you have the means you should get your hands on a copy of the Attacking Anxiety program. It is without a doubt the masterpiece of Lucinda Bassett's oeuvre. The book FROM PANIC TO POWER is in my opinion a mere supplement to the program. I'll close with a note for the male reader and listener. Going through the Attacking Anxiety program and rereading FROM PANIC TO POWER, I can't help but notice that this is hands-down intended for a female audience. (I first became aware of Lucinda Bassett because of her appearance on Oprah, for example.) This is not to say that what Lucinda teaches won't help males. The material has helped me a great deal as the bare tools of recovery are without gender. But Lucinda Bassett herself mentions that statistically speaking far more women than men deal with anxiety and depression, and Lucinda and apparently most of her staff are female. It therefore is not surprising that much of the material is fashioned toward a female audience. Specifically, many of the stories in FROM PANIC TO POWER deal with issues that women more often than men will face (balancing the life of motherhood and career, etc.). And even in the Attacking Anxiety program, particularly in the group discussions that always take place after Lucinda's introductory monologues, a female perspective abounds. (On Lucinda's audio program Life Without Limits, a good portion of one of the tapes has Lucinda giving a pep talk about how sexy lingerie makes you feel better about yourself. You go, girl!) And sometimes the group discussion portions of the Attacking Anxiety program remind me of episodes of The View (which Lucinda has actually appeared on), and sometimes passages of FROM PANIC TO POWER read like excerpts from Better Homes and Gardens. I wish Lucinda would let a male member of her staff create at least a single-volume program about the issues facing men who are dealing with these issues. So, to recap, FROM PANIC TO POWER is a good book overall. But it is not the end-all be-all of recovery from anxiety and/or depression. In my opinion it is but a supplement to the Attacking Anxiety program, and some of the stories will most likely be uninteresting to the male reader.
GOOGLE "OPRAH EFFECT".
RIPOFF REPORT;
Lucinda and David Bassett flood late night infomercial TV with their overpriced Attacking Anxiety and Depression schlock program. They advertise a "30-day risk free trial" for just $9.95, the so called "shipping/Handling charge" (inflated as any typical infomercial ripoff), the hook being that the S/H charge is all you pay for the 30 day "trial period".Then when you arent magically cured by this collection of cassette tape in 30 days, send it back with no obligation to pay the $75.00 a month that they bill your credit card for the next 6-7 months. Dont believe this CRAP for a minute. They start ripping you off immediately with the inflated shipping charge and then start removing your money 30 days from the ORDER DATE which typically is 10-14 days BEFORE the 30 day trial period STARTS. By the time the "30 day trial" is over they have already taken the first FULL payment of $75.00 (+ tax) by 2 WEEKS, even when you decide you dont want to buy this craprogram. One of Lucy's top-secret cures is to "Drink 8 glasses of water everyday" and "quit smoking and drinking" DUH!! Gee for such wisdom it only costs 450 bucks! If these amateur Pyschobees had a grain of credibility would they operate so Don Lapre-like? It will take weeks to get your refund (if ever) A wiser approach would be to work for the bAssett's. Then you can buy the "program" for $20 and save yourself $425 just 90% off the ripoff price they charge everyone else.
Yes, this is nothing but an outright SCAM being perpetrated on depressed people. These people are the lowest of the low and their useless tapes are not even worth five dollars, yet they will charge you over $400 in this colossal ripoff!!Lucinda Bassett needs to be jailed for fraud and deceptive business practices just like Miss Cleo was. Advertisements for this scam run on radio and TV, but do not fall for the lies, this is nothing but a heartless, evil, devious scam and they care about nothing else but conning you out of your money, and lots of it. Where is the Federal Trade Commission when it comes to scam artists like this? This ripoff is an absolute disgrace!

The Midwest Center for Stress and Anxiety infomercial claim to send you a free CD and what I got was a whole kit and big bill for $519! I called and ordered thinking I was just getting a free CD and all I had to do was pay for S&H. The person I spoke with was fast talking and mumbling. When I tried to call and cancel they claimed it was past my trial period and told me I couldn’t return it. They are slick and they cover their butt so they never get sued. If this woman in the infomercial, Lucinda Bassett really wanted to help people she would not charge them hundreds of dollars to do so.
So PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! Do not call them for a free CD! This is a big scam they have going on. I don’t want others to get into this mess. I have more stress and anxiety now from them!

Oh come now. Let's not resort to name calling. While you may disagree with someone, there is no need to call them a nut-job one so public a place as the internet. And so what if he misspelled a word. I am sure that everyone has misspelled words form time to time as they hurriedly type away trying to express themselves before the moment is gone.

look people the program does cost a lot cause my mom told me but it really does work. i mean i have been suicidally depressed for 4 years and i spent a year without looking at the program but when i picked it up dude it totally helped me so dont blame her because maybe her husband didnt want to see the program if he killed himself thats his problem. dude the price is totally worth the results. if you dont buy it thats on you but it worked for me so stop criticizing her for that man seriously
ReplyDeleteThe only way her advice on the tapes would not significantly help people is if they are unwilling to try [work] and they [sub?]consciously want to stay impaired. The advise is old as the ages but does a great of packaging the teachings of how to live a more complete life. Some people don't want to get well because it will be the end of their internal and external excuses on why they are where they are in life, or why they are who they are in life. Until their will to improve is powerful nothing will help.
ReplyDeleteThe program is quite effective. I used it about 15 years ago. You have to be patient and really work with the concepts. It is a financial investment, but I found it totally worth it. Had I not used it, I would have spent a lot more on medication. I'm not against medication, but if you don't want to use it, you have to look for other avenues. It has also allowed me to take risks in life I never would have done otherwise. (open my own business, travel all over the world etc) You cannot put a price on that. Regarding her husband, it's cruel to suggest that he should be immune from issues just b/c she developed this program. It's tragic and not something someone should be making insensitive comments about. Have you ever exerienced the suicide of someone close? It's terrible. So, I, for one, am glad I did the program. It helped me learn to cope with so many things and become more mature. I hope those who gave up on it give it another chance.
ReplyDeleteThe person above that is saying PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't buy this program.....Uh, that sounds a bit over the top, which is exactly what the program tries to teach you not to do. Over reactions, catastrophic thinking all contribute to anxiety. Many of the complaints I see about the program sound so extreme. It might not be a miracle cure, but it does focus on not over reacting to the world and in addition, your symptoms of anxiety. just a thought..... Worked really well for me. I have always been a big over reactor to stress and still struggle with not being extreme with reactions to life's challenges, my own mood and what other people do. I am really glad I used the program.
ReplyDeletewell i must say this is so so cool. see http://www.unn.edu.ng for more on this.....
