We are currently featuring principles that support amending the Constitution to address the severe flaws in the Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United. Here are core principles that grassroots groups and over 50,000 people have signed on to:
We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to:
Firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
Guarantee the right to vote and to participate, and to have our vote and participation count.
Protect local communities, their economies, and democracies against illegitimate "preemption" actions by global, national, and state governments.

U.S. Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper of Erie issued the following response today to television ads critical of her, which are currently airing throughout the 3rd Congressional District:
Dahlkemper Responds to Ads Accusing Her of Being Soft on Cancer After Dahlkemper loses her parents to cancer, tobacco front group launches attack
Erie, Pa.—Today, Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-3) responded to deceiving attack television ads airing across Northwestern Pennsylvania. These latest attack ads are funded by a front group for big tobacco and oil called Americans for Prosperity. Given Rep. Dahlkemper lost both her parents to cancer within the last month, these ads sink to a new low as they question the Congresswoman’s commitment to preventative care and cancer screenings. At best, these ads are tasteless and misleading, and should be taken down immediately.
“These attacks from a Washington-based front group are false, tasteless, and shameful,” said Congresswoman Dahlkemper. “In the past month, I’ve lost both my parents to cancer. It’s truly disgraceful for outside groups to then attack me for not being tough enough on cancer.”
“Like millions of Americans, my family and I have lost loved ones to this horrible disease. This is personal for me; I’ve been a strong proponent of the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation and the work they are doing to find a cure, and I’ve encouraged more cancer screenings, particularly for women. My record and dedication are clear.”
“I will always do what is best for Northwestern Pennsylvania, and these distortions won’t do a thing to change that commitment to my constituents,” Dahlkemper said. Americans for Prosperity is a front group for tobacco and oil companies.
“It’s disgusting that the partnership of tobacco and oil have targeted Congresswoman Dahlkemper only days after her parents passed away from cancer,” said Chief of Staff Tina Mengine.
As the mother of five, and the new grandmother of two, Dahlkemper has a personal commitment to family health, and has emerged as a new leader on preventative care and wellness. She made numerous contributions to the current health care reform bill, such as making it easier for young adults to stay on their parents’ insurance, and expanding coverage to fight obesity.
Contrary to the ads claims, Dahlkemper has also specifically tackled preventative cancer care. She has introduced and cosponsored legislation that would:
Encourage breast cancer screenings for women under age 50;
Recognize National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day;
Recognize Cervical Health Awareness Month;
Raise awareness of ovarian cancer; and,
Raise awareness about women’s susceptibility to colorectal cancer.
“Americans for Prosperity doesn’t speak for the district,” said Mengine. “It’s a Washington-based mouthpiece for big tobacco and oil. Western Pennsylvanians should be offended by these ads; they are utterly false.”
Below is a list of cancer related legislation that Congresswoman Dahlkemper has sponsored or co-sponsored:
HR 109: Honoring the 20th anniversary of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in the Nation’s Capital and its transition to the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure on June 6, 2009, and for other purposes.
HR 158: Expressing support for the designation of an Early Detection Month for breast cancer and all forms of cancer.
HR 727: Expressing support for greater awareness of ovarian cancer.
HR 787: Expressing support for designation of October 13, 2009, as National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
HR 971: Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives regarding guidelines for breast cancer screening for women ages 40 to 49.
HR 1011: Recognizing the importance of cervical health and of detecting cervical cancer during its earliest stages and supporting the goals and ideals of Cervical Health Awareness Month.
HR 1053: Recognizing that women are equally affected by colon cancer.
HR 1189: Colorectal Cancer, Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment Act of 2009.
HR 1691: Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act of 2009.
HR 1740: Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Requires Learning Young Act (EARLY) Act
HR 3962: Armed Forces Breast Cancer Research Act.
