COLUMBUS, Ohio -
Police in Dayton have arrested two suspects wanted for multiple homicides and shootings in Central Ohio.
According to Columbus police, Devonere Earl O'Shay Simmonds, 17, and Nathaniel Brunner, 18, were arrested in Dayton by SWAT officers Saturday at about 9 a.m.
Police said Simmonds and Brunner are also suspected in a shooting and carjacking early Saturday morning at a gas station in Madison County.
According to police, the two suspects may be involved in up to three homicides in the Central Ohio area, including the Wednesday night shooting that left 34-year-old Imran Ashgar dead after a robbery at the Convenient Plus Food Mart.
The crimes Simmonds and Brunner are suspected in the following crimes:
July 21, 2013: One person was injured, and another was killed in a shooting at 777 Lilley Ave. at 1:25 p.m.
July 24, 2013: Ashgar was found shot to
death at the store at 1475 E. Livingston Ave. Simmonds and Bunner are
charged with murder. Police
are looking for at least one other suspect.
July 25, 2013: Lamont Frazier, 17, was found shot to death on a sidewalk on Oakwood Avenue at 6:45 a.m. Frazier was
known by Simmonds, police said.
July 27, 2013: A truck driver was shot in the head at the gas pumps
at the Madison County Travel America Center at state Route 42 and
Interstate 70 at 4:50 a.m. The driver was shot after he resisted a
carjacking. He is at Grant Medical Center.
Timothy Dunn was sleeping in front of the closed Sunoco station across state Route 42 in the early morning."I heard a gunshot and I got up and I seen two black guys jump in a car and they speeded out and headed towards Columbus," Dunn said.
Columbus police said the two ended up at the house of a relative of Simmonds in Dayton instead.
"After we found their location, Dayton SWAT officers were called to the scene and were able to make an arrest without any further violence," said Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs.
Jacobs said tips from the public helped in locating the two.
"Without the cooperation of many people in the community we might not have them in custody right now," she said.
Ohio State Highway Patrol spokesperson Lt. Ann Ralston said a trooper gave the two suspects a ride to the gas station in Madison County. She said it is standard procedure to search someone before they are put in the back of a cruiser. She would not say whether the two were searched or whether they showed the trooper their identification. Further details from the patrol were not immediately released pending an investigation.
The arrests came as a relief for Ashgar's widow, Christine Ashgar, who said that all she has left of her husband now are pictures and some old voicemails. Christine also said she does not blame the trooper who gave the suspects a ride for a missed opportunity to catch the pair.
"He didn't know. I mean kids are kids. He was just doing his job. Maybe he was just being nice. Not a lot of people are like that these days," Christine said.
Meanwhile, Jacobs has also asked the public for help identifying a possible third suspect involved in the convenience store robbery.

WHAT TYPE OF PATHOLOGY TURNS THESE "MERE CHILDREN" INTO HARDENED CRIMINALS MUST BE A GENETIC DEFECT IN BLACK DNA, THERE CAN BE NO OTHER EXPLANATION.
