Ron Paul: After ‘CIA coup,’ agency ‘runs military’
US House Rep. Ron Paul says the CIA has in effect carried out a "coup" against the US government, and the intelligence agency needs to be "taken out."
Speaking to an audience of like-minded libertarians at a Campaign for Liberty regional conference in Atlanta this past weekend, the Texas Republican said:
There's been a coup, have you heard? It's the CIA coup. The CIA runs everything, they run the military. They're the ones who are over there lobbing missiles and bombs on countries. ... And of course the CIA is every bit as secretive as the Federal Reserve. ... And yet think of the harm they have done since they were established [after] World War II. They are a government unto themselves. They're in businesses, in drug businesses, they take out dictators ... We need to take out the CIA.
Paul's comments, made last weekend, were met with a loud round of applause, but they didn't gather attention until bloggers noticed a clip of the event at YouTube.
Paul appeared to be referring to news reports that the CIA is deeply involved in air strikes against Al Qaeda targets in Afghanistan and Pakistan. A suicide bombing late last year against Forward Operating Base Chapman in Afghanistan took the lives of seven of CIA operatives, including two contracted from Blackwater. The event highlighted the CIA's deep involvement in the war effort.

Paul's reference to the CIA being "in the drug business" refers to long-running allegations that the CIA has funded some of its covert operations with proceeds from drug-running. That claim was most famously made in a 1996 investigative report from the San Jose Mercury-News, which alleged that cocaine from the Contra-Sandinista civil war in Nicaragua was making its way to the streets of L.A. via the CIA.

In June, 1995, the Washington Post suppresses another story about the Mena investigations. In November, 1996, Caspar Weinberger is accused of participation in the Iran-Contra affair. This is where Terry Reed comes into the picture I mentioned earlier. Terry Reed testifies. Terry Reed is a pilot and a subcontractor who worked for the CIA Iran-Contra operation. When he discovered that drugs were shipped to the U.S., ( the MENA operators) he left the operation in disgust. He soon found himself and his family the target of a retaliation lawsuit claiming insurance fraud. However, the Reed family was cleared of the allegations in federal court in Wichita, Kansas. Shortly thereafter, the Reed family filed a civil suit against those who had brought the wrongful suit against them. And here folks is where it gets really interesting. Two employees of Bill Clinton, Buddy Young and Tommy Baker were charged with fabrication of evidence and other civil rights violations against the Reed’s. Now this is where is gets even more interesting. In September, 1995 Buddy Young is linked to the Iran-Contra/Mena operation. Clinton's former security chief, now a defendant in Reed's Mena trial, appears to have been more involved than previously known. After years of a legal circus, the lawsuit by the Reed family finally began in earnest in late1995. Depositions were taken from a number of people and they all told the same story under oath. They also revealed that U.S. senators (both parties) tried to block investigations into money laundering at Mena. All of these witnesses have sufferedharassment and intimidation because of their explosive testimony. In early 1996, the judge in the case ruled to suppress all evidence relating to Mena, CIA, and the Clintons from the trial. Reed discouraged at this point, gave up and dropped the trial. One honest policeman, Russell Welch supplied much of the material and proof of the Mena case, he too has suffered harassment and intimidation. Who is Julius "Doc" Delaughter. It is December, 1995. The White House is asked about it, and they deny everything. At this same time, Reed drops the lawsuit and the murder of two teenage boys, Don Henry and Kevin Ives occurs in Benton, a town near Mena. Due to persistent parents and a few honest Arkansas policemen, their murders are traced back to the drug smuggling operations at Mena. A British documentary exposes the murders and the link to Mena. When will the CIA be declared a state-sponsored terrorist organization? How different are they from Iran's Revolutionary Guard or Hezbollah? The CIA has more funding, more weapons and technology, and has infiltrated almost every nation on this planet. And they have the approval of the most powerful nation to murder innocent people. Those are the differences and they are quite stark. In my mind, they are much more of a dangerous threat to the population of this planet than Al Qaeda. I challenge anyone to add up the number of civilian deaths and casualties from their drone strikes reported in Afghanistan and Pakistan in the last few years, and compare them with civilians killed by the Revolutionary Guard (which has been designated a terrorist group by the US). And those are only just the ones we've found out about. Remember, the United States has actually used nuclear weapons against civilians, uses depleted uranium in Iraq, bombs and kills civilians in poor third world nations, supports the drug trade, and the CIA tortures prisoners. Why is any of this not considered terrorism? I'll tell you why. . . Because all of it is done against people who are not White Caucasians.
